Thank Editions Bragelonne making me discover this new author and this new trilogy!

Chronicle:

Hiding in the shadows, Caim is a particular killer. He is the best and most effective because it has two advantages: one, he slips into the shadows as someone else and two, he has a car kit that speaks only a woman ghost who helps him appearing from time to time to guide, provide information on the position of enemies or teasing. She is also a little jealous when she meets Josie.

Josie is Josephine, the daughter of his target ! Only problem, when Caim arrives on the scene, the target is already dead! He then realizes he has been doubled. When soldiers come into the house and the girl is in danger Caim shows he has a heart, cared for and saved.

He then discovers a plot that combines machiévalique clergymen, politicians, murderers and magicians from the shadows. This is one of the strong points of the story. is pretty twisted that I welcome. The characters each have their purpose and will do everything to achieve it, regardless of the behavior of others. Cairn will meet with enemies so tough that it will not give gifts. So much the better, he does not either. Our young man was dark handled knives to perfection.

This adult fantasy novel is a pure concentrate action. There are still some moments of calm to satisfy our thirst for knowledge. So when we discover a little past the characters and their feelings. I find that despite all this lack of response in the end. The novel is too short (just over 300 pages) and finally, I would have liked to know more about the past of hero (because the flashbacks are not always very clear here), the ' precise origin of his powers and most importantly, find out more about Kit , the ghost woman, who appears also not much in the second half of the novel (ok, she was gone sulking!). Will therefore have to absolutely buy volume 2 to find out more.

While I'm at the point low, I also note that it lacks a card at the beginning of the novel . Because the story unfolds almost entirely in the city of Othir, example I love a picture of the city see how the author represents. The descriptions are quite limited, we walk from one place to another, but it lacks a few details, I think. All I have generally upheld, is that there is Hauteville where the rich live Basseville and where the people live ... The rest of the continent, it is not clear either but saw the end, it seems that more will wander in Volume 2.

Nevertheless, level illustration it was served for the cover. Wonderful! is the work of Michael Komarck I STRONGLY encourage you to visit his portfolio: http://www.komarckart.com/

To return to the novel, I still very much attached to the characters, especially the duo Caim / Josie . Without spoilers, I can tell you that the end is very paced and tense . I stressed at the same time as the characters, I felt every attack, every blow. It was very well described. 's writing is fluid and Jon Sprunk understandable, I did anyway nothing wrong with that. For a first novel is a good job!

For the reasons stated above and for that little something missing, I do would put a note by cons not perfection. It may lack a touch of madness, a rebound that would have really surprised. But is that a first volume, I'm sure the author will do even better next time. Strongly on to find out!

Overall rating: 8 / 10
