My opinion falls on a Sunday
Thomas is an obese child , his father alcoholic, his mother psy the local casino. It should address the winners of the establishment, so they do not petent the shot. His career is important to her and she has already cheated on her husband. Even Thomas knows. One afternoon, he will play with his kite XR9 (yeah, that's very R2D2 but in fact there is nothing exceptional). A storm rises, an old man said hello and patratra, suddenly, the kite falls .... pile-pile on the guy and kills ! Thomas does not know what to do! Her father will kill him, he had bought his kite! But Thomas is not stupid, he took the kite string, tie them to one side, a small boat that goes away and the other, the old man. The boat leaves the body. No trace, Thomas goes home. He is 12 and he is a murderer!

My opinion falls on a Sunday
I present today a saga -almost-favorite. "Almost" because when they are reluctant to stamp a badge of this noble book is that it does not have one! But he has taken much.
Drimm Thomas is the work of Didier van Cauwelaert , an author who still received the Prix Goncourt in 1994 One way . Ok, there was an eternity but it still shows that this man did not write that the youth, the bottle and can bring a touch of age at a children's book.
And it feels right from the start, after Thomas Drimm is not childish. Van Cauwelaert created a world not so futuristic that it was imagined in the air. It's smart and sarcastic. is a kind of exaggerated version of today's world. It reminds me a bit in 1984 with Big Brother . It is therefore in a consumer society that runs everything. more we advance in the book, the more one discovers the workings of the system. It's exciting. How and what way, I'll explain.
But now, the story does not end there. When he returns to his room at night, his teddy bear starts talking to her ! The old he killed is not dead and his mind was mentally rematerializes in the plush! He then explains that Leo is Picton, the inventor of electronic chips that anyone over the age of 13 must wear (to capture the energy of the person, energy that will return the machines to his death. .. yes, it's quite complex). Picton asked him for his help save the world! Bam!
If that's not the start smashing and gives you not want to read the book, I eat my hat. I'm frankly a lot of fun throughout the first part. The universe is frankly shifted, a lot of picks on today's society . I think you can read this book for the story itself but there are also some sobering observations of the author. Some examples are better than long words
True, there is a law called the Child Protection: When no children, was the right to divorce. (Page 13)
Anyway, with a father who drinks, I have no future: it seems that it is hereditary and you catch in the alcoholism womb. Except he began to drink after my birth, but it does not matter: it's written in my academic record and, with something like that, I would never go very far. It's always a son of non-drinker who gets the job for me I ask. By dint of being denied, I will eventually put me to drink myself, I would become hereditary, and when everything is back to normal, I would not lie over my file. (Page 14)
The first half of the novel is small sip of remarks like that. I found that it faded in advancing the narrative. I find it damage and that probably explains a lot-almost-my favorite. Perhaps the novel begins and ends too much worse.
But make no mistake, it's still a must children's literature. It's entertaining and intelligent at the same time. The other strong point is the characters . They are rather ambiguous, we hesitate some time to catalog them "good" or "bad", even for major figures such as Thomas Picton or Leo, who invented the teddy bear. There are also Brenda's neighbor of 28 years which Thomas He is madly in love. You see this trio of heroes is atypical, as are their adventures.
Drimm Thomas, so it's a saga that I highly recommend that you have 12 years, 28 years or 77 years. Volume 2 was published this month by Editions Albin Michel. I will tell you more soon! I hope I have read before going to Youth Salon de Montreuil (early December) because I saw that Mr. Van Cauwelaert went there in dedications (after long struggled on the website of the worst designed I've seen this month ... click on the link, you see the maze, you must type at random to find nothing but the list of publishers and authors who go to this show). Anyway, the whole is to thrive in this kind of event. Maybe I should find new nuggets there, then convert them to chronicle here.

Thank Editions Bragelonne making me discover this new author and this new trilogy!
Chronicle:
Hiding in the shadows, Caim is a particular killer. He is the best and most effective because it has two advantages: one, he slips into the shadows as someone else and two, he has a car kit that speaks only a woman ghost who helps him appearing from time to time to guide, provide information on the position of enemies or teasing. She is also a little jealous when she meets Josie.
Josie is Josephine, the daughter of his target ! Only problem, when Caim arrives on the scene, the target is already dead! He then realizes he has been doubled. When soldiers come into the house and the girl is in danger Caim shows he has a heart, cared for and saved.
He then discovers a plot that combines machiévalique clergymen, politicians, murderers and magicians from the shadows. This is one of the strong points of the story. is pretty twisted that I welcome. The characters each have their purpose and will do everything to achieve it, regardless of the behavior of others. Cairn will meet with enemies so tough that it will not give gifts. So much the better, he does not either. Our young man was dark handled knives to perfection.
This adult fantasy novel is a pure concentrate action. There are still some moments of calm to satisfy our thirst for knowledge. So when we discover a little past the characters and their feelings. I find that despite all this lack of response in the end. The novel is too short (just over 300 pages) and finally, I would have liked to know more about the past of hero (because the flashbacks are not always very clear here), the ' precise origin of his powers and most importantly, find out more about Kit , the ghost woman, who appears also not much in the second half of the novel (ok, she was gone sulking!). Will therefore have to absolutely buy volume 2 to find out more.
While I'm at the point low, I also note that it lacks a card at the beginning of the novel . Because the story unfolds almost entirely in the city of Othir, example I love a picture of the city see how the author represents. The descriptions are quite limited, we walk from one place to another, but it lacks a few details, I think. All I have generally upheld, is that there is Hauteville where the rich live Basseville and where the people live ... The rest of the continent, it is not clear either but saw the end, it seems that more will wander in Volume 2.
Nevertheless, level illustration it was served for the cover. Wonderful! is the work of Michael Komarck I STRONGLY encourage you to visit his portfolio: http://www.komarckart.com/
To return to the novel, I still very much attached to the characters, especially the duo Caim / Josie . Without spoilers, I can tell you that the end is very paced and tense . I stressed at the same time as the characters, I felt every attack, every blow. It was very well described. 's writing is fluid and Jon Sprunk understandable, I did anyway nothing wrong with that. For a first novel is a good job!
For the reasons stated above and for that little something missing, I do would put a note by cons not perfection. It may lack a touch of madness, a rebound that would have really surprised. But is that a first volume, I'm sure the author will do even better next time. Strongly on to find out!

It was not long ago, I mentioned the excellent TV series adaptation of the comic book The Walking Dead written by Robert Kirkman. zombie madness continues today! The undead are just to make chili. The pitch of zombie novels, it's usually how we poor humans, if we will manage the day after the world gave way to chaos.

A young man who turns into a tree is like ants eighteen meters of a famous poem: it does not exist. Except in this enchanting tale of a young author signed newcomer to the comics Line malicious and delicious colors.
Genre: fantasy comics
edition read: Gallimard collection Bayou (2009) - 120 pages
Thank Editions Gallimard for sending me this title press department!
It was a long time since I had not read a comic (Franco-Belgian style at least). Before, I always went to the library district to take 6 or 7 per week (after a few years, I had scoured the shelves ...). Now, in my small town in Belgium, the ray BD unfortunately the size of a simple box with a few old songs (Asterix and Bob & Bobette, for example). What a delight then to discover this comic! This title is also very good! Both in the drawings of the story.
The story
"Legend has it that sleeping spirit lives in all of us. And sometimes, they say, a childhood trauma the kind of sleep. This is the awakening of Zelphire " (page 4)
Sylvan, the hero of history, will explore this phenomenon as a child. His father, authoritarian and brutal, pushed him all the time to go hiding in the great oak of the property. One day, he grows on the branches and the head of the sap flows in his veins. The transformation took place!
But it does not follow the discovery of powers, we immediately made a leap in time. Sylvan is now a student and took courses in botany. He also a girlfriend, Leonore, who knows his secret (indeed, in the morning, wake up, instead of having acne is small branches start to grow! hard to hide is not it ). The adventure begins with his internship at a Dr. Werner, a former adventurer, a little cracked. He discovers he is not the only one with powers and that Zelphires also have their own nemesis!
The story is so extraordinary an adventure combining action and suspense. It's very exciting, I never got bored. Expect a few moments of heroism and a lot of twists. I do have presented only a quarter of the characters. It worked enough, there is a good background, helped by the design of shimmering Friha Karim.
The pencil stroke
These drawings are in effect worked well. We are not in a minimalist style to GastonLagaffe example. I really felt like having a piece of art in his hands. The characters are drawn quite conventionally, but they are clearly identifiable and some charismatic (Sylvan, the professor and his daughter, the bad ...). The essential of this comic is by cons decor. The city is particularly beautiful and the Big Bad Benchmark (superb board on page 14). Shadows are well worked and 're colors are well chosen, with shades of brown and green glue on the mood and the story (because Sylvan is a male tree ...). So there is nothing wrong, Karim Friha is an excellent designer / colorist.
In conclusion, this is a comic book that I highly recommend. I'm sure you will not be disappointed with this purchase! In addition, if you like, Volume 2 is available for some time!
